Camp's here, bye bye Buu

I'm going to Port Dickson tomorrow!!! Sun, sea, beach.... here I don't come!!! hahaha...

Holiday season is so not for me. I'm attending to duty calls again. 1 day in PD and 1 day in Seremban. And then I come back KL jadi widow. Yes yes.. camps starting. I can hear ye kukubirds yelling. Take care of my hubs for me, okay? Lucky kkbs, get to have Penang food. I so envy.

Aitelliu... the kids can really really cry very loooong. I sit outside also can hear, meaning should be quite loud also. Although I've been together with Buu since he joined the company, I haven't really seen the camps in action. Tonight my first lor. And they tell me the teens can do it too. And with a lot of cendol. Waah. So rugi, knot see.

On a totally non-related note, I realised that I don't like myself recently. Feel that I'm behaving like a grouch. My evil alter ego, that bad soya, is taking over me... and I don't like it. Haih.. mood fluctuates like siao onii.

The saving grace for today is when Buu & I decided to have a piece of char siew for a son and was gently reminded that we also have a piece of siew yuk as a daughter. hahaha. Sorry, TJ and Ailin. Mummy loves you both. Daddy loves you both too. That made me so much more cheerful. See, the wonder porcine does. Praise pork!

And I have a confession to make. I pigged out on Roti Babi again yesterday at Yut Kee. The price is so damnfarkin expensive, I noes. But yours truly here is oh-so-degil laa. Too irresistable sia, but I satisfied my pork pangs. Hee hee hee. *rubs tum tum* Colleague Linda ordered the fried mee hoon which was not bad. Wet with lots of "liew"= ingredients like fishcake, vege, prawns and rubbery sotong (a bit overcooked). I shall go back for the belacan fried rice next time round. :)

By the way, I might feature my new maid back at hometown in the next post. So stay tuned. Nighty nite, peepz!

Rice ball bento

Remember I mentioned before that I'd made some onigiri and inarizushi? Here're the pictures. As you can see, the rice is glistening a tad too unnaturally. My bad. I overestimated the water level and the rice turned out too wet and squishy. I was kinda horrified & had actually thought of throwing the whole pot of rice away. Disappointment aside, I still managed to keep my sanity in check and decided better against committing the unforgiveable sin of wasting food. Pheww..
Twas also the first time I experimented or rather medddled with the furikake family! Hehe. I added the wakana and okaka furikake to different rice balls. They really upped the flavour of the rice balls. The wakana rice balls were nothing to shout about, compared to the okaka ones. I also dabbed sakura denbu to add some colours and features to the rice balls. Nice kah?

Top tier: Rice balls molded into various cutesy shapes: teddy, star & heart.


Bottom tier: Failed octopus sausage, inarizushi and a nori-covered onigiri.
By the way, surprise.. surprise... my fave of the day was actually the nori-covered rice ball with plain rice and plain inarizushi. The latter is not featured here. This is actually Buu's bento. I did not take pictures of mine coz they were eaten during the time my car broke down. The hot dog was a failure as a result of my inferior cutting skills. But that will not deter me from experimenting more in future. wahahaha.

Nice no more

Enough al-rea-dy, no more Miss Nicety. If you think I'm gonna be an effing doormat that you enjoy wiping your stilettoes on, may piss be with you and rot in purgatory (R.I.P.). I do not appreciate being taken for granted. I can be nasty when I want, but somehow I chose not to.

Wheew. I'm slightly appeased with that shoutout.

It's infuriating when you treat people nicely, and they treat you back like an imbecile. I have all the patience in the world but that doesn't mean I'll put up with someone else's sheit, until & unless I feel the person deserves a larger capacity of my patience.

I refuse to let that snot spoil my day, so... *takes deep breath*

... here's a post of my lunch for the past 2 days. Does it look miserable? Definitely 'karrrer-ful' la, i noes.

Anyways, I never knew oats could be yum being savoury. Furikake is so multipurpose *hearts*. Honestly, the wakana furikake tasted way better here than in the onigiri. I much prefer the okaka furikake which I used on the first day coz I'm really partial to katsuo-bushi. Added Korean roasted nori in the oats too for erh.. fiber! That pink stuff in the middle is sakura denbu, sweet stuff. Need to find a chance to use the sake and shiso furikake soon! Can't wait. *glee*

Dear blog,

I'm late for work today. And my appraisal is next week. Nyahahaha. Car overheated and smoke was billowing out of the hood. Awesome, it's a first for me. Kinda freaked out. Thank god I did not contribute to the jam at LDP, which from hearsay, was crawling from bumper-to-bumper due to many cars that broke down. Extreme thanks to Buu boy for coming to my rescue, he brought 3 tubs of water to cool down the radiator. And heartfelt thanks for chomping down all the onigiri and inarizushi this morning, even though the rice turned out too soggy & squishy. You make me wanna weep... nobody would gobble down my experimental chow as willingly as you (T.T). My baby is so nice!! He said he'll be my guinea pig for everything I cook. I'm a blessed girl! :)


P/S: I'm not the only one. Nik had the same prob as me! The spooks of it, too much of a coincidence. Anyway, we made it through.. so, the rest of today will be a better day! *grins*

Slated to start on the 15th of November, which is tomorrow, we had the opportunity to view the display before the official starting date. What luck!

Ipoh Nam Heong Coffee Shop




While we observe more and more of Ipoh Old Town Coffeeshop mushrooming everywhere like nobody's business, let us not forget the authentic brew from the town itself.

Our gracious hostesses brought us to this bustling little coffeeshop, named "Nam Heong"... loosely translated into Southern Fragrance.



Their Ipoh White coffee is the real thang, bay-beh! It's so full of oomph that you'd never want to touch those watered down generic java again. Exaggerated? Maybe. But hell it's good.




Tucked at the shop front is a Char Kway Teow stall with a winning recipe that will keep you asking for more. Fried to perfection, the kway teow was neither too oily nor too dry. The wok hei wasn't too overwhelming and really whets the appetite. I have no qualms going for seconds even if it's a code red dish (read: cholesterol laden).


Give me more... give me more!

Pendrive fix

I'm in a fix because I lost my pendrive. All my coop reports are stuck there. And all my roadshow reports too. And my mini project pictures as well. Been mulling over it for quite some time already. To say I'm sad is an understatement... but I think I should move on and focus on something more constructive already.

Still, I feel grateful because I had a talk with someone that I never thought would strike up personal talk with me tonight. I think it's a sign for me to focus on something other than my own matters. It's not going to be an easy task, and I'm going to need all the faith and patience I can get to help me through this responsibility.

Of late, I feel really stressed out. I understand that it has nothing to do with work or life... only on how I view things. I tend to take things too hard, unable to let go of bygones, and at times staying too rigid. Seriously, I really must frame myself to loosen up. If not, I'll soon turn out to be a nut case.

Tonight's going to be a long night.... gambatte, spunkz~

Ipoh Ngah Choi Kai

What's a trip to Ipoh without a taste of it's acclaimed Ngah Choi Kai (beansprouts and chicken) and Sar Hor Fun (flat rice noodles)?

This time round, I had the opportunity to savour this dish from a shop at Cowan Street. Locals claimed that this shop beats Ong Kee and Lou Wong hands down.

The shop is relatively easy to locate with its shop name emblazoned in green over a white signboard, "Restoran Cowan Street Ayam Tauge & Koitiau".

To eat it is not exactly easy either. The proprietors only open the shop whenever they want to, meaning you need to be seriously lucky to catch 'em in action.

For the first 2 nights during our stay, it remained closed. On the 3rd night, Colleague gave a yelp when she drove past the street and exclaimed "We're having our dinner there tonight!"


Having tasted Ong Kee's fare the last time I visited Ipoh, I found Cowan Street's preparation of this delicacy delightful.

I absolutely enjoyed the silken strands of noodles here compared to Ong Kee's. There was no rice flour smell evident as compared to the former. Broth wise, it is a bit sweet for my liking. But perhaps it is one of the thing that makes this shop stands out from others.


You can't find any beansprouts fatter and juicier than Ipoh (just a personal opinion, lol).


The chicken was succulent and tender to the bite. I have no complaints. Colleague said it tasted more tender than the 2 more popular shops. Well, I can't make any judgement as I haven't tasted Lou Wong's before and just tasted Onn Kee's once.

All in all, I certainly wasn't disappointed with Cowan's as it does live up to its name. Hope to get more chances to visit this old town so I can taste more of its food!

7 day week, again~

It's another 7 day week, whee. :)

I'm downstairs with Brian and Jian Sheng, while Carol's upstairs with Nathalia. Got a scare when I was rushing from Gombak to TTDI after the roadshow. Traffic was crawling from Bulatan Pahang onwards, thank goodness it was just for a small stretch. Managed to stuff down a croissant and a pizza bread in between while stepping on the pedal, talk about multi-tasking... hee. I actually managed to get there on time, but another surprise awaits...

Nobody's there yet. ROFL.

Well, I did see Conrad, he was early too. And cool as a cucumber, he told me.. "I ain't gonna wait here. Am gonna grab a cold drink over there.."

*envious*

Beads of sweat were forming on my forehead then, but I couldn't not wait because I was still in my roadshow garb. Gah.... Have to wait for the doors to open so I could at least change to my formal wear. Oh well, it didn't take long anyway.

Sigh, got so many loose ends to tie up before I leave for Perak. Dr Chan pulak kacau me yesterday say she didn't get my report. fark fark fark. So long ady only you tell me this? I handed it up yonks ago... Why does this have to happen all before I leave?
