Pigging Out

Porcine, as it seems, shall remain as a perennial favourite on Buu & my palate.

Curiosity aroused over raving reviews from
Yut Kee
's famed Hainanese Pork Chop & Roti Babi,
we set off one fine Monday morning to locate the purportedly history-imbued coffee shop.

Yut Kee is situated near the old Campbell's road. It's a corner coffee shop which is a 10-minute picturesque walk away from Dang Wangi's Putra LRT station.

Much to our dismay, it was closed on Monday.
Undeterred, we went back to the shop on the following day!
Now that's what you call porcine aficionados *winkz*

Stepping into the shop, one couldn't help but get hit by a huge wave of nostalgia...

From the floor tilings to the rickety chairs...

... the family ancestral picture yellowed with years

...and antique memorabilia reeking of age...

As we sipped on a cup of robust coffee, prepared the traditional way..

... the mains alighted.

Introducing... the acclaimed Roti Babi.

With a fluffy coating of egg dipped bread, the Roti Babi was light and delightful accompanied by its savoury filling of juicy slivered pork and tender onions.

Each bite was a moment in paradise..
*exaggeration, but it sure put me on a celestial pedestal of bliss while it lasted*

Coming right up,
our next guest is none other than Mr Pork Chop of Hainanese origin.

This dish was nothing to be raved about.
The chop was a wee bit dry, and the potatoes undercooked.
The sauce was just ok... until you add a dash of hero-to-the-rescue..

le Lea & Perrins Worchestershire Sauce!

...which worked wonders for the Hainanese Pork Chop.

Amazing how generous dousings of the sauce salvaged the otherwise disappointing chops, as you can see from the cleanly-lapped plate below.

It was certainly a worthwhile trip, and a wonderful experience seeking the gem hidden beneath the camouflage of the concrete jungle. And of course, we've vowed to make our presence felt in the nostalgic little shop. *winkz*

-The End-
