Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (2009)

When the lights go off the battle is on.

Set to release in Malaysia on the 21st May 2009 (Thursday)

I've had the pleasure of watching it in the company of crazee loved ones yesterday at GSC Mid Valley. Thanks to Chombi for the complimentary tickets. :)

Rela members were stationed everywhere for body scans and security checks. They were actually present right in the screening rooms itself and constantly patrolling to make sure that nobody is fleecing the movie during the special screening. Stringent measures indeed but necessary.

Synopsis:

When the Museum of Natural History is closed for upgrades and renovations, the museum pieces are moved into federal storage at the famous Washington Museums. The centerpiece of the film will be bringing to life the Smithsonian Institution, which houses the world's largest museum complex with more than 136 million items in its collections, ranging from the plane Amelia Earhart (Amy Adams) flew on her non-stop solo flight across the Atlantic and Al Capone's (Jon Bernthal) rap sheet and mug shot to Dorothy's ruby slippers, Fonzie's jacket from Happy Days, the still from M*A*S*H and Archie Bunker's lounge chair from All in the Family. With a forwarded resume, Larry (Ben Stiller) becomes another caretaker at the Smithsonian, where Kahmunrah, an evil Pharaoh will come to life with the reestablishing of a tablet as a magical force in the museum bringing the old exhibits (Such as Theodore Roosevelt and Dexter) and new exhibits (like General Custer and Al Capone) back to life, and in conflict with each other. Larry enlists the help of Amelia Earheart, who he develops a romantic interest in, and together they try to put everything back in order. (Source: The Internet Movie Database)

Plenty of laughs innit. But as both me and Buu agreed on, they were predictable. I was hoping to see more participation by the old characters in this movie but that didn't happen. A tad disappointed coz who doesn't love Atilla the Hun and Dum Dum!!

Amelia Earhart (Amy Adams) IS vey sprightly.. erm abit too sprightly for me till I wanna smack her. But maybe that's the whole point. I was pretty sure Larry (Ben Stiller) would love to do that too. hehehe. Can't help noticing how she flits around like a little dancer, so very nimble and lithe. Oh, a digression - they have a Degas bronze statue inside!

Ok, back to the story. The very indignant evil pharaoh Kahmunrah talks with a lisp and has some funny scenes indeed. And why oh why does his brother Akmenrah have to look like a Greek Adonis? Makes me melt with his affable smile.

Lovable Jeddediah and Octavious will not disappoint. I've come to appreciate Octavious more in Battle of the Smithsonian as compared to the previous movie where Jeddediah bowled me over instead.

Ah, and don't hasten to leave your seats too soon. Wait for the credits rollout and a special scene. You might find out how a certain phone brand came about. *winkz*

P/S: I just noticed I've been blogging more on movies. Bento has taken a back seat for the time being. Still, me hopes to get me bento kitchen up and running again soon! I wonder does anyone actually miss my bento posts?

SELL OUT!

Year: 2008

Country: Malaysia

Length: 110 mins

World Premiere: Venice Film Festival

Director/Producer/Editor: Yeo Joon Han

Starring: Jerrica Lai, Peter Davis, Kee Thuan-chye, Lim Teik-long, Wong Wai-hoong, Lee Szu-hung, Hannah Lo.

Unfortunately, since I watched it in the local cinema, this intricate piece of work has been unfashionably mutilated by the Censorship Board. *big sigh*

Given a chance, I would rewatch it again and again... and again. Would love to grab a copy of the uncensored version. If anyone has a way, do share with me. I'd really appreciate it. Hehe, if Mr Yeo plans to release the OST, all the better.

Support our local art scene. A fine piece of work like this does not come by everyday. Not your usual fare of Hollywood gunk, this is the real deal. You'll walk away with new perspectives...... or unearth those that you once held, but buried away to make way for the lesser important things in life.

Be cautioned, emotions will run high through the movie. Any true blue Malaysian will not want to miss this. Catch it while it's still on. Hurry!

Angels & Demons

Just a short shoutout to everyone:

"Angels & Demons is the bomb!"

As you can easily guess, le spunky witch, Mr Buu and Handsome Jay Jefferson C just watched the exclusive screening of the aforementioned movie. God bless Chombi for his thoughtfulness. :)

Suspense sial... exciting sial... Buat kitorang gripping our seats in suspense throughout the movie. We were wriggling in our seats most of the time, seething in their anger, almost understanding their frustrations, gasping at the gore and marvelling at Dan Brown's wizardly twisty plot. Me thinks he has a pile of brilliant mush nestled beneath his skull cap, same as me thinks of John Grisham.

I had to admit that the plot was not as cryptic as its prequel "The Da Vinci Code". But it's still a thrilling watch. I haven't had such stirred emotions since "The Dark Knight" where the Joker was eeriely brought to life by the late Heath Ledger who shares the same birthday as me. I love the Joker for his chilling lines since then.

Aitelliu... this awesome possum movie has officially been listed as one of spunkz fave movie of 2009. Plus you knwo what, I can't wait to lay my hands on the book!!! Hope BookExcess carries it. Yes yes, I sound like a nerd but to hell I care.. I just enjoy reading and finishing books in record time. It has become an unsatiated habit, if you may pardon me.

Anyhoos, security was extremely tight at GSC 1 Utama tonight as all of us had to go through a detailed security check before entry is granted. Greatly understood as the movie has yet to be released in Malaysia and measures were taken to prevent the movie from being leaked out. As cliched as it sounds, I gotta say this:

Be sure to catch it when "Angels & Demons" opens in cinemas nationwide on 14 May 2009! It will definitely be worth every single cent!

And guys.....
meet my new friend...
It's Mr Domokun!!!!!

rawr!
