Restoran Peng Heong Hakka Paikut @ Klang

Anybody wants pork ribs? ME! *waves frantically*

A day before my Friday roadshows, Long Legs was sharing with me a place that was touted to serve raving porb ribs (排骨) in Klang. It was supposively located near my roadshow outlet.

Me, being super cacated and directionally-crippled in Klang, had thought there were no hopes in locating it. Thus, I really must thank my Klang-based colleague, Sharon for bringing me there!

Restoran Peng Heong Hakka Pai Kut has an extensive menu. Its pork ribs is certainly the definitive dish there as its ubiquitous presence was on each table. We saw many patrons ordering other dishes such as mutton curry, spicy and sour mustard and vinegar pork trotters as well. Food was served very fast, and the servers were friendly and helpful. The premise was also very clean and comfortable to be in.

While waiting for the dishes to be served, choose your chilli dips.

The redder one on the left was sweet and has a faint piquant taste of something that I'm not sure of, like plum? It could be an acquired taste for some because one of my colleagues didn't touch hers after a taste. The one on the right was the garlic and ginger chilli normally served with chicken rice.

Now for the star of the visit!

The Hakka Pai Kut

RM 8 worth of carnage here. The meat was well marinated (I could taste ginger or galangal). Deep fried and drenched (or simmered) in a thin sweetish sauce, each morsel was a delight to indulge in. Upon my first bite, I was thinking: This is so soft and tender, it doesn't feel like pork ribs at all (...you know, those annoying ones that gets its meat fibers stuck in your teeth). Now we know why the shop was packed to the brim... worthwhile coming for.

Assam fish is priced by size. You can order it from RM 5 up till RM 8. This fell short of expectation, for me at least. I love my assam fish on the fiery and sourish side. The sauce was too sweet and wasn't spicy enough. My colleagues like it coz it wasn't spicy. I must say, the fish was fresh though. Can taste the subtle sweetness (umami).

These balls were priced at RM 1 a pop. So RM 3 worth of balls here. Not a shout-out-loud dish. Somehow or rather, it has a taste remniscent of "wu kok" (芋角). Goes well with the special chilli.

We also ordered stir fried lettuce for roughage. Lightly stir fried and still retaining its crispness, the vege was only RM 3. They actually had a RM 2 portion too! Dirt cheap.

Another must mention is their rice. Oiled rice (油飯) is served here. It was really fragrant, cooked with stock. They have thick and dark soya sauce on the table for you to drizzle your oiled rice with as well.

Total damage = RM 24 (inclusive of 4 rice and a drink).
Rice was RM 0.50 per bowl.

This is a place that I won't mind returning for again as its food is really affordable and delightful. Now, I can't wait to try the other dishes. Happie Sunday, y'all!

Delectable cupcakes by Su

On a weekend that was furthest away from sleep and quiet, Buu and I hopped over to MidValley to catch a glimpse of the Devil who was waging a war against the Orks with his miniatures. It's interesting how the minis come to life by a rolling of some dices.

Even to bystanders like us, who knew nuts about it in the first place, the game was engrossing. We stayed for a bit till it was time for us to gravitate back to reality again as duty calls out crisp and clear on a Saturday morn. bah.

Despite that, I needed my getaway from those mundane madness. With fleeting steps, we whirled our way to an elegant shop nestled in the Gardens for a dose of ediporn.

Fish Head Noodles @ Woo Pin, Tmn Desa

Growing up, my idea of fish head noodles has always been the clear soup kind with lots of salted vege and tomatoes.

I was only introduced to the milky kind when I started studying in KL. It took me some time to get accustomed to this richer tasting version of fish head noodles, with fried fish and evaporated milk enriched broth.

Woo Pin at Taman Desa offers a nice version of this. I didn't stumble upon this shop, of course. I've done some research earlier and there were some good reviews on it.

It was the most leisurely Saturday I've had by myself in months and I'd been dying to visit the 100 yen shop some tens of steps away from Woo Pin. Thus, it seemed to be an excellent idea to pop over for lunch after the spree.

Order was fast and much to my delight, the piping bowl of hot noodles was dished out within 10 mins of ordering. I was also given to choose my own chillies to go with the noodles, which were either chopped chillies or belacan chilli. The latter was pungent enough and proved to be a great accompaniment to the noodles.

Woo Pin's fame is well-earned as its fish head noodle's broth was wholesomely sweet. I like the fact that there were plenty of chopped tomatoes and salted vege which lent the soup its tanginess. The fried shallots, spring onions and coriander also made nice condiments to the soup. Just for declaration sake, I love coriander!

The fried fish was very fresh as well and I was given 3 or 4 humongous pieces to devour on. I noticed that its vermicelli didn't go limpid or soggy after some time and that was definitely a plus point.

mmm... I'm hungry again just by typing this post. That said, I'll be going back again for more helpings hopefully soon. and with Buu or cuzz in tow. hehe.

Nice food should always be shared, innit?
