Happy Birthday, Buang Boy! Surprise!

We're gonna pick up something for Cassie's wedding dinner tomorrow.
Really? Cool!
Faster laa. I meeting people at 7 pm.
Okay! Coming!

In the car...

So where're we going?
Bukit Damansara.
Oh, how do we get there?
I dunno.

*shocked silence*

At Bukit Damansara..

Are we at Jln Beringin?
Uh dunno.. yaya! I saw the sign. So what's next?
Jln Setiabakti.

What are we picking up ah?
It's a crate of wine. Someone sponsored it.
So nice. Who ah?
I think it's Dan's uncle.
Can you get down and help me carry the stuff?
Sure. Yay, we get to keep a bottle for picking up.

Note the gullibility *snickers*

All eyes scrutinising...

It's here!
Noo... that's Setiabudi. *smacks*

Makes a big detour around Medan Damansara.

What are you looking for now?
A Secret Recipe.
Ohhh... Secret Recipe. I think I know where.
Wah Irshad, you so smart la. I should have asked you earlier.

*Buu sneaks slitty eye look at me*

Well, if you've had mentioned earlier that we're looking for Secret Recipe we'd have #$%^&* (inaudible since I covered his mouth by that time)

We met the legendary baking maestro Fatboybakes and picked up the "crate of wine". Someone's eyes nearly popped out.

On the way back to car..

Surprise!
*still shocked & can't stop laughing*

In the car..

Wasn't that the celebrity baker? You got me birthday cakes from the celebrity baker? Aaaack! How awesome is that! *hugs cakes all the way home*

.... turn left or go straight?
Straight!
Eh.. Stop! Traffic light laa.
Den you should tell me! It's not straight. It's STOP & go straight. *smacks*

*fight all the way home*

Bavarian Wirtshaus German Pub @ Ara Damansara

Unposted food adventures aplenty and yet I chose the most recent one to blog about. Sorry, my bad. But...but... it's porcine, you see... and I... you know... it... sigh...

Mr Buu stole some time to have lunch with me yesterday and we decided to visit the German place which was a stone's throw away from me office. We were the only customers around and hence, service was prompt and personal.

Both Buu and me went for the set lunch. Buu chose pork chops as his mains while the witch dived for the pork stew which sounded mighty comforting. We were given the choice of a soup and 2 side dishes each. I was curious about how a potato soup would taste like and opted for it and keju-giler Buu gleefully selected the cheese soup.

Food here appears to be made from scratch. I love how homely the soups tasted. It was none of the condense gunk we get from cans. Pleasant surprise, definitely. My potato soup was sweet and reminded me of the corn soup mum used to make at home. However, my throat felt tight after a few spoons. Wonder if it's because of the salt. The sensation was akin to tasting tomato paste in its raw form and having the throat tightening from the tartness. On the other hand, Buu's cheese soup was lovely. It had minced pork, celery, onions and a subtle hint of cheese. Tastewise, delicate and not meant to overwhelm.

The pork chop was the winner of the day as it stole our hearts away with its juicy texture. Well-marinated and tender, it was porcine heaven unfolding in full glory. Yut Kee's Hainanese Pork Chop pales so much in comparison to this. The latter's pork chop had never impressed me with its dry texture. The sight of the pink flesh on the former makes me wish I had ordered that instead. Extremely alluring~ I could only sneak envious looks while Buu relished in his bliss.

Buu had a side of french fries and mashed potatoes. The fries was forgettable and the mash was pretty plain too but served a purpose as I discovered later.

My pork stew came with 5 meaty pork balls swimming in it, which I couldn't finish. They were very filling but rather ordinary tasting. The stew was hearty and very rich and had bits of carrot. The side of toasted multigrain bread came in handy to mop the sinful liquid up. I must say the cook was rather heavy handed with the salt. I'd wanted to finish the stew but gave up due to the saltiness.

Me fren Bob says he likes the bread!

The bread was good, warm on arrival with cold butter on side. Part of me much wished it was salted instead of unsalted. lolx. Terrible, I noes. I hereby pronounce myself guilty as a nutritionist led by my olfactory senses instead of health preachings. >_<

Apart from bread, the parsley scented mash also helped me to neutralise the saltiness of the stew. It was therefore plain for a good reason. Initially I'd been hankering to taste some sauerkraut. Hence I was more than a tad disappointed when the server informed us that they had no sauerkraut that day. eeeek. The blasphemy is tantamount to visiting a Thai restaurant without tasting its kerabu or tom yam. Okay, maybe I exaggerated a little. Better luck next time.

The rich meal was washed down with a tall glass of cold & refreshing Limonade (RM 5). We enjoyed the lemony-ness as it was just right and not too tart. Nice to burn the fats. So we wished. hee.

Set lunch is priced at RM 16.50

A meal for cuzz and me

If I did not recall wrongly, yesterday night was the first complete dinner I cooked for cuzz and meself in this house. Cuzz brought Crooner too, and I almost had a heart attack coz I was expecting to cook for ourselves only. Paiseh nya...

Crooner is cuzzie's buddy. He's what we call a karaoke machine in real life. He can practically sing any song! That ain't the end, mind you. He sings effortlessly and can mesmerise one with his voice no end. Gah... Me & cuzzie become baduts when we go K-ing with him. But syiok also la, like listening to concert w/o paying the amount. He can sing like the voices of Gary Chaw, Jay Chou, Nicholas Teo, JJ and Jacky Cheung. I haven't even touched the part about him on guitar yet. Told ya he ain't human. Ich. Too much digression. Back to the dinner.

Luckily, no major mishaps occurred in the dishes other than cuzzie's over-browned omelette and my apparent lack of salt sense. Uhuk, I gotta respect my profession sometimes. Cannot eat so salty laa...

We had "Yau Mak" or romaine lettuce stir fried with enoki mushrooms, onion omelette and steamed mince pork with dried cuttlefish, wine and ginger ala Restaurant Mui Heong at Jalan Imbi. Cuzz and me saw how they prepared it on tv last weekend and couldn't kept our minds off it. lolx. The impetus one gets from watching food programmes.

Clever me forgot to snap pictures of our first home-cooked meal too. *smacks self* Everyone dug in too fast. No chance oso. Until finish everything ony I rmb. *pouts*

*This is a filler post because I need to blog so that I can write my articles simultaneously. Weird, me knows. Today is not a fruitful day because inspirations are just not coming in. The only mischief managed was non work related - discovering 2 icon sites with loadsa .png files which I can use for photo editting. happiness~

* Today's gratitude thought is on how Buu always offers to help me wash up after meals. It transpired after the meal last night because I was the one preparing, cooking and cleaning up. Crooner did offer but I declined since he's the guest. Anyhow, I'm grateful for the blessing which I have in Buu's thoughtfulness. I appreciate it. :)

Pop da Blister

**Not for the squirmish**

Yesterday...

Today...

After some pokey procedure by Des-chan (used a clean lancet)

Squeezing the blister for a more evident fluid release picture

One of the results from my kitchen frolics. Oil spatter induced blister. As if it's gonna put me off cooking. Heh.

I need to do more gathering-organising. It felt like a car trundled over my body by the end of the day. I couldn't move my limbs for the next day and conked out till 2. Sure beats running in the gym! At least, heart-willing. ^_^ Tis reminds me, I should have taken some astaxanthin. =)
